A case report of transcutaneous acupoint electrical stimulation combined with warm needling for Atlantoaxial Subluxation

This case report reports a patient with atlantoaxial subluxation (AAS) who received combined therapies of electroacupuncture and warm needling. The patient presented involuntary movements in the neck over two years ago, which were unresponsive to conventional physical therapy. and was diagnosed as AAS after X-ray radiography. Due to the increasing negative impact of the condition, the patient opted for acupuncture treatment and was administered transcutaneous acupoint electrical stimulation combined with warm-needling. After the initial treatment session, the involuntary movements in the neck decreased in frequency. After four treatment sessions, these symptoms improved. And after 14 months of treatments every 1 to 2 weeks, the patient's involuntary neck movements completely disappeared, and X-ray follow-up showed no abnormalities in the atlanto-axial joint.
