Background: The use of fixed orthodontic appliances often makes it difficult to maintain oral hygiene, leading to higher plaque accumulation compared to individuals without orthodontic appliances. Plaque buildup can increase the risk of periodontal disease and caries during orthodontic treatment. One preventative measure is the use of toothpaste containing the enzymes Amyloglucosidase and Glucoseoxidase, which help inhibit bacterial growth and reduce plaque formation.
Objective: To determine the effect of using toothpaste containing Amyloglucosidase and Glucoseoxidase enzymes on reducing plaque accumulation in patients using fixed orthodontic appliances.
Methods: Literature study comparing enzyme vs non-enzyme toothpaste.
Results: Enzyme toothpaste reduces plaque index better than non-enzyme toothpaste.
Conclusion: Toothpaste containing Amyloglucosidase and Glucoseoxidase is effective in reducing plaque in fixed orthodontic patients.
