Background: Cognitive health including memory, intelligence, and brain resilience is vital in today’s world. In Ayurveda, Medhya Rasayana formulations promote intellect (Medha) and memory (Smriti). Chyawanprash, a renowned classical rasayana, has long been used to enhance vitality, cognition, and brain strength.
Objectives: To review and analyze the role of Chyawanprash as a Medhya Rasayana, integrating Ayurvedic concepts and modern scientific research related to cognition and neuroprotection.
Methods: Classical Ayurvedic texts and modern scientific literature were reviewed.1,2 Data on pharmacological actions, clinical outcomes, and neuroprotective mechanisms of Chyawanprash were analyzed.5,6
Results: Ayurvedic references highlight Chyawanprash as a Medhya Rasayana promoting Ojas, Medha, and Smriti. Modern research shows antioxidant, adaptogenic, and neuroprotective properties that support cognitive function and mental resilience.8,11 Limited clinical studies demonstrate improvement in memory and reduction in oxidative stress after regular consumption.6,12
Conclusion: Chyawanprash demonstrates strong potential as a Medhya Rasayana enhancing memory, intelligence, and brain resilience. Larger, well-controlled studies are needed to confirm efficacy and standardize formulations.
