Accurate and timely diagnosis is the foundation of effective clinical practice and successful patient outcomes. Despite remarkable technological progress, modern diagnostic systems continue to face challenges such as overdiagnosis, unnecessary investigations, increased healthcare costs, patient anxiety, radiation exposure, and a significant burden of diagnostic errors. Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of medicine, offers a comprehensive, individualized, and clinically oriented diagnostic framework rooted in direct patient interaction, observation, and understanding of disease causation.
The present narrative review explores classical Ayurvedic diagnostic methodologies and evaluates their potential integration with contemporary medical diagnostics to improve diagnostic accuracy, reduce errors, and enhance patient-centered care. By synthesizing Ayurvedic principles such as Trividha Pariksha, Ashtavidha Pariksha, Nidana Panchaka, and Atura Pariksha with modern diagnostic approaches, this article proposes a clinically relevant, integrative diagnostic model. Such an approach may strengthen clinical reasoning, promote personalized treatment planning, and address existing gaps in modern diagnostic practices.
