Among many gynaecological malignancies ovarian cancer is the most prominent and leading cause of female mortality worldwide. The fifth edition of the World Health Organization of tumours of the female genital tract divided Ovarian tumours into four categories: Epithelial/Surface, Germ Cell, Sex Cord- Stromal and Metastasis on the basis of distinct risk factors, pathogenesis, pattern of spread, genetic profiles, response to chemotherapy, and outcomes. Molecular profiling has enabled to identify peculiar alterations occurring among histologic subtypes. Taken all data together, advancement of technology and enabling the exploration of novel biomarkers that may be able to provide more accurate diagnosis and improve prognosis of the patients.
