In recent years, an alternative complementary strategy for the management of migraines, one of the leading causes for neurological damage globally, has been investigated. Aromatherapy has been considered an option for treatment option. The main topics discussed in this systematic review are the pathophysiology of migraines, the scientific evidence for essential oils and the pharmacological actions of multiple essential oils. A few essential oils, for example peppermint and lavender, have been identified as having anti-migraine therapeutic properties. These oils have the capability to modulate vasomotor activity and decrease neurogenic inflammation, both of which are triggers for migraines. However, there is a need for higher quality randomized controlled studies to improve dosage and safety procedures. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that aromatherapy is a reliable and scientifically validated approach to the management of migraines.
